Going green
For its 100th anniversary, the brand is unveiling its new range of products made from recycled plastic: Smoby Life. In an attempt to respond to current environmental issues, these toys are more eco-friendly: they are recyclable (just like all the brand’s products) and also made from recycled material. These products are still compliant with toy standards and continue to meet requirements in terms of robustness and quality.

1920's

1924: The company is founded in Lavans-les-Saint-Claude, France, under the name Moquin-Breuil, originally specialising in the manufacture of wooden pipes.

1940's

1947: After the Second World War the company changes over to the production of plastic household goods.

1970's

1978: Renamed Smoby. Start of toy production.

2000's

2003-2005: Acquisition of toy companies Lardy, Monneret, Majorette, Solido and Berchet.
2007: Smoby-Majorette starts to incur losses and files for bankruptcy protection. Insolvency proceedings are instituted.
2008: The SIMBA DICKIE GROUP receives the go-ahead to take over parts of the former Smoby SA from the Commercial Court in the Jura. The new Smoby Toys SAS is founded. The company's head office remains in France.
2009: Smoby Toys makes their first appearance at the Nuremberg Toy Fair as a new subsidiary of the SIMBA DICKIE GROUP.

2020's

2024: Smoby celebrates its 100th anniversary, a century of innovation, creativity and collective success. To mark the occasion, a unique exhibition has been organized at the French toy museum in Moirans-en-Montagne.

Production

Smoby Toys is based in the French town of Lavans-lès-Saint-Claude. The town is a major hub for plastic production and has a reputation for creativity, quality and excellence. 75 per cent of Smoby products are manufactured in the French department of Jura, which is also home to Smoby’s headquarters in Lavans-lès-Saint-Claude. Smoby toys are produced in one of Europe’s most advanced toy factories – a 40,000 square meter facility in the idyllic village of Arinthod.

Quality

Prior to leaving the factory, all Smoby products are subject to numerous internal and external quality and safety checks to ensure compliance with legal requirements according to European standards. We do not use any plastics that might constitute a health risk.

Most of the Smoby range is developed, designed and produced in France. Based in the Jura region of France, the cradle of the French toy, the expertise of Smoby employees is beyond compare and guarantees an optimum level of creativity, quality and workmanship for maximum entertainment and user friendliness. High quality materials and the latest manufacturing methods guarantee the highest quality.

The Smoby production site for the tricycle range, prams and metal swings is in Alicante, Spain. Quality and "Made in Europe" expertise also stand for excellent product characteristics and long-lasting entertainment.

The use of Masterbatch (colour granules) with high UV stability and high colour fastness means that Smoby products don't fade and remain stable even after long periods of exposure to sunlight.
